2008 CLINIC BASEBALL RULES

RULES:  Official Little League rules with the following exceptions:

  1. SPORTSMANSHIP:

The clinic baseball is a learning experience.  Education of the players is the purpose of the league.  Enthusiasm and reinforcement are important.  Good sportsmanship is to be stressed by all coaches.  After the game is completed, each team will lineup for the traditional handshake.  Please remember that the kids are here to learn and have fun!

  1. DIMENSIONS:

Base distances are 60 feet.  Coach pitch.  The coach may kneel to pitch.

  1. LENGTH OF GAME:

The Clinic games should last approximately 1-1 ½ hours.

  1. BASE RUNNING:

During each inning plated each player will have a turn at bat.  The batter is limited to only one base for any hit (except for the last batter in the inning who will hit a “home run” bringing all base runners around the bases to home plate).  No bases are to be taken on an overthrow.  The team at bat will have one adult near first and third bases to direct runners.  No player is ever “out” and forced to leave the base.  The last batter should be rotated so that whenever possibly each player has an opportunity to bat last and hit a “homerun”.

  1. PARTICIPATION:

All players showing up prior to the game in uniform shall be in the batting order for the entire game.  All players must play at least 2 innings in the field.  No more than six players may be in the infield.  These positions are pitcher, catcher, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, and shortstop.  The child pitcher will stand on one side of the coach who is pitching and the catcher (without equipment) will stand on the other.  Outfielders must be on the outfield grass at the time the ball is hit.  Coaches can be on the field for instruction.

  1. PITCHING & CATCHING:

Pitching shall be done by a non-player (i.e. an adult, older brother, or sister, etc.).  No player may pitch.  The pitcher is provided by the team at bat.  The pitcher must make every effort to not interfere with a batted ball (they cannot field a ball in play), allowing the other team’s player in the pitcher’s position to make a play.  Pitching shall be over handed.

All catching shall be performed by a non-player.  The catcher cannot make a play at home plate, only the players.

  1. STRIKES: No strikes should be called on players as there are no outs, but after 5 swinging misses a player should hit from a tee, or if a tee is not available  the player should be assisted by a coach.
